In Those Boots - EP Interview

Why did you write In Those Boots, and what made you write it?

So, I had been thinking a lot about my childhood, and I was thinking of writing a country song, and I had watched some videos and looked at some pictures of myself playing guitar or singing and stuff. I started off with the first verse that I was 3 years old and I really wanted to be a country singer when I grew up, and watching my grandpa play and sing a ton of songs. My favorite that he plays is Bimbo by Jimmy Reeves. When I was 3, I got some boots for my birthday, and they were the little red ones that are in the artwork image on the EP cover. For the second verse, I wrote about when I wrote when I was 14. I wrote about writing my first song,  and my first time I played and sang on stage was for the school talent show in October 2019. The boots that I wore on stage were the big dark-turquoise-colored boots that are in the EP artwork image.

Why did you write Mud Got Me Like That, and what made you write it?

I wanted to write a made-up story and make it country, so I did my best to do so. The story goes that I was in my truck driving and I got stuck in some deep mud, and I had a 2-wheel drive truck, so I wasn’t able to get out. I got out of the truck and drank a root beer on the tailgate. I called up my friend to come to help me get unstuck. He came by but was unable to help me get out. I gave him a root beer, and we just cleared our heads, and we got this idea to invite some friends over and have a party because no one wants to have a bad day being stuck in the mud, so why not just have a party and have a good time? Our friends came over and we had a great time. The cops showed up, and we were like “Get ‘em outta here!”, so we blasted the truck speakers so loud, and we pretended we were drunk, so I showed the cops the root beers, and they were like “Oh okay, they’re just kids. They’re not drunk. They’re just having a good time”, and they left. And the party and everything else started, all ‘cause “mud got me like that”!

Why did you write Won the Girl, and what made you write it?

I was remembering about all those times I had liked girls, and they all rejected me. I was all sad back then, but now I realized that it was probably a good thing. I was so naive and all I wanted back then was a girlfriend. I realize now that there was no point in dating back then ‘cause I wasn’t planning on getting married any time soon, so now I have no desire in dating. I can focus on what’s really important, like church, school, music, and living a good life. I set the goal of starting to date in 2027 ‘cause by then, I’d be an adult, I’d have more knowledge from my dad teaching me about what to look for in a girl, and I’d actually be looking forward to getting married. I put most of those details in a song, and I had my parents revise it to see if the lyrics were okay. There were a few details that I had to change, and those are the new lyrics you can listen to in the song.

Why did you write Just Country Enough, and what made you write it?

I really don’t know. It just popped up. I was bored and just wanted to tell people what I do, what I like, what I wear, and mainly to tell people how I was “just country enough” because my previous genre in music was like nothing compared to country music.

Why did you write On The Way, and what made you write it?

One day, I was really wanting to write a church or gospel country song. I prayed and asked God to help me write one, and a few days later, when I had a lot of free time on my hands, I went outside, where I get most of my ideas for songs, and I  wrote this song. I included some country scenes in it, like driving a truck on a bumpy dirt road. I wrote that song in about 20 minutes. Or at least it felt like it. I’m thankful that God helped me, and I am so happy about how the song turned out.
